Sample rededication of marriage vows
Setting the scene
This is a rededication of the wedding vows of Ray
and Carole warren.
The ceremony would take place on September
21st 2007 their 22nd wedding anniversary.
It would be held in their
garden.
Incense would be hanging from the trees, and the
meditation area of the garden would have been blessed and a fresh flower
garland placed around the Buddha.
Angel confetti will have been
scattered around the garden.
The family and friends are gathered
in the garden.
Music: Fields of gold. Sting
Carole
and Ray will enter the space together each holding a candle and also
holding hands.
The minister:
Angels, guides family
friends and all loved ones, join with us on this happy day and let this
be a day of gladness, thanksgiving, possibility and great good fortune
for all of us, but especially for Carole and Ray, who are coming
together again to demonstrate the wonder of love through the
rededication of their marriage vows.
We all live in the hope of
loving and being loved, and any sign of the true unity of two people who
love each other is an inspiration. Therefore we give thanks for the
sweet happiness of Carole and Ray. Their enthusiasm is electric, their
belief in the destiny of their love is inspiring, and their great
expectations inspire us beyond measure.
Marriage is a very
special place, the sheltered environment in which we can endlessly
explore ourselves in the presence of another and in which we can offer
the possibility of the true reflection of another. We are so happy that
Carole and Ray found one another, and that they know in their souls how
perfectly matched they are.
We ask that the vision that they have
of one another be always informed by the spellbinding radiant power that
first brought them together, and we pray that they continue to hold each
other in the light of all light, the love of all love.
Carole:
The
minute I heard my first love story I started looking for you, not
knowing how blind that was.
Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere; they
are in each other all along.
Candle lighting:
Music:
you are so beautiful.
Carole and Ray step forward and from their
two candles they light a new candle placing their two still alight
candles either side of it
Their children, April, Rose and Jack
then step forward and each light a candle and place those on the table
in front of the others.
The minister:
This candle
lighting ritual represents Carole and Ray bringing the light of their
beautiful unique souls together to a single flame which will always
illuminate the love they share together, fuelled by the divine grace of
god
The flame of love that they have carried for each other for
over twenty years burns brighter in every moment.
April, Rose and
Jacks candles signify the love and joy that each new souls addition to
this union has brought.
Carole and Ray acknowledge the grace and
holiness of their sacred union and gratitude fills their very souls for
the love and joy that continues to light the path before them and their
beautiful children.
The reading:
April:
Then
Almitra spoke again and said, "And what of Marriage, master?"
And
he answered saying:
You were born together, and together you shall be
forevermore.
You shall be together when white wings of death scatter
your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of
God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the
winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not
a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of
your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give
one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and
dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even
as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same
music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.
For
only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together,
yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And
the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.
The
minister:
Carole and Ray will now rededicate their vows to
each other.
Carole and Ray turn to face each other and hold hands.
Ray:
Love.
So many meanings, so many beliefs, so many actions and so many journeys
in one word.
Love is not measurable, cannot be captured, cannot be
demanded.
Love is given freely, unconditionally and without limits.
Love
teaches us to feel ecstatic, feel sad and feel humble. It gives us
strength and can create weakness.
Love is one word but immeasurable
definitions. Love has more facets than any diamond.
Carole, you are
love to me. You embody all the strength, charity, friendship, belief and
hope found in my picture of love. You provide peace, fun, passion,
fortitude, perception and beauty.
You have taught me so much, changed
my view on life, walked with me through my many experiences and always
been there when I needed you. Yet I still feel I am me!
Thank you for
your friendship. Thank you for your intimacy. Thank you for teaching me.
Thank you for our children. Thank you for the peace and joy we all share
in our family home.
Thank you for being my picture of love.
Carole:
Ray-
I have loved you from the very first moment I met you. We have travelled
together in times of ecstatic joy, through deep sacred connection and on
occasion through great sadness and loss.
You have shown me a mighty
and holy love that has held me always in the light of god’s presence.
You have illuminated the darkest corners of my soul, and have boldly
marched past my worst fears about myself to reflect all that I can be
and all that I have become.
I rededicate my love and honour for you,
and pray that we can travel the rest of our days together in sacred and
holy union with god until death scatters my humanness to the wind.
Thank
you for all the beautiful blessings you have brought into my life.
The
minister:
A prayer for Ray and Carole
Our beloved god.
Please
continue to make Ray and Carole’s relationship a great and holy
adventure.
May their joining always be a sacred space. May the two of
them continually find rest and a haven for their souls in each others
company.
Remove from them any temptation to judge one another or
direct one another. Allow them to surrender their conflicts and burdens
to your loving care.
Bring them together in mind, body and spirit.
Remove
any temptation to criticize or be cruel, and take away any fantasies or
projections, so that they may always see each other with truth light and
clarity.
Guide them always in the ways of grace and holiness that
this relationship can continue to shine its light in the family, the
community, the world.
May this sacred bond be a channel for your love
and healing, a vehicle of your grace and power.
Let them always
remember that in each other they have found the most beautiful man, the
most beautiful woman, the strongest one. The sacred one in whose arms
they are constantly repaired, renewed and made whole.
Thank you dear
god.
The minister;
The final blessing.
May
you be blessed, every step of your path by the great god of light.
May
the sun shine upon you: may the moon move the tide of your emotions with
every grace and magic; may you hearts sing; may your hearth be always
warm; and may every day of the rest of your beautiful life together be
filled with joy
Amen
Everyone sings:
You Are the
Sunshine of My Life
You are the sunshine of my life
That's why
I'll always be around,
You are the apple of my eye,
Forever you'll
stay in my heart
I feel like this is the beginning,
Though I
have loved you for a million years,
And if I thought our love was
ending,
I'd find myself drowning in my own tears.
You are the
sunshine of my life,
That's why I'll always stay around,
You are
the apple of my eye,
Forever you'll stay in my heart,
You must
have known that I was lonely,
Because you came to my rescue,
And I
know that this must be heaven,
How could so much love be inside of
you?
You are the sunshine of my life, yeah,
That's why I'll
always stay around,
You are the apple of my eye,
Forever you'll
stay in my heart.
